Welcome to my website, a messy conglomerate of my photos, writings, and films. My name is Liam Cardenas Ferguson, a student at Colorado College, hailing from the dusty desert of Grand Junction.
In 8th grade, I picked up my father’s old Olympus digital camera and went to the trail with my younger brother. We had been building a prominent jump line for our mountain bikes, grinding through hot, desert summers in order to fulfill our dreams of a Redbull Rampage-like line.
Yet when I pressed my eyelids to the viewfinder and focused through the glass, I forgot about my bike and the flathead shovel: looking at the world through the viewfinder was the most unique sensation I had ever experienced.
From that day on, the camera was always at my side, on the trail, under the water, hanging from the wall. Soon, I began to fall in love with the sound of a camera shutter and the familiar compression of my cheekbone with rubber.
My mother was born and raised in South-central Chile during the Pinochet dictatorship, while my father hails from a midwestern farm. United by a love for adventure and a commitment to making society a better place through social service work, my parents raised my brother and I in the desert of Southwestern Colorado and the Andes of my mother’s home. Growing up, I have been extremely privileged to have hobbies such as climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and skiing, which gave me my first tastes of freedom, risk-taking, and decision-making.
Yet the world is not a place as dreamlike as the mountains of my home, and entering the latter years of high school, I sought to understand the world in a way different from that I had before. Using grants, applications, and scholarships, I have had the opportunity to use my passion for adventure and art to produce projects focused on political systems, socioeconomic disparities, environmental degradation, and more. This is what I hope to do far into the future, and I am ambitious to develop my skills and learn more every single day.
In my free time, you can always find me outdoors. Additionally, I am an avid pianist, soccer player, Harry Potter fan, ceramist, and techno fan.
